Speakers:
Greg Papadopoulos, Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President of Research and Development, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Dave Douglas, Senior Vice President of Cloud Computing and Chief Sustainability Officer, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Discussion Topic:
Virtually everything people touch these days has been designed by engineers - and everything that is engineered is constantly evolving. The half-life of knowledge in the field of engineering is measured in months.
But it takes much more than just an education in engineering to be an engineer today. Engineers must consider not just the design requirements of a project, but the full impact of their work - from an ecological perspective, a business perspective, a legal perspective, and a sociological perspective. Engineers now need to coordinate their work with many other engineers, sometimes hundreds of them. And now engineers face an age which demands socially responsible engineering on a whole new level.
Hear Sun Microsystems' CTO Greg Papadopoulos examine how and why the world of engineering has changed and provide practical advice to help engineers of all types master the new world of engineering and start thinking like socially responsible Citizen Engineers.
