Mobile Loaves & Fishes: Micro-Enterprise Program

Net Impact Austin's picture

Mobile Loaves & Fishes, Inc. (MLF) is a non-profit social outreach ministry for the homeless and indigent working poor. The organization has its roots in Austin’s Saint John Neumann Catholic Church.

Their mission is to provide food, clothing, and dignity to homeless people, and they currently accomplish that mission through the use of 12 catering trucks that go out onto the city streets of Austin, San Antonio, New Orleans, Providence, and Nashville every night of the week and feed more than 1,000 people in need. This work is enabled by a network of over 10,000 volunteers.

MLF's approached Net Impact Austin with the aspiration to build a micro-enterprise business model that would provide sustainable income for Austin's chronically homeless community. The program would function in conjuntion with their Habitat on Wheels (HOW) program as a bridge to assist ardworking and committed individuals from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

The Net Impact Challenge Workshop Series is a rubber-meets-the-road venue for Net Impact Austin members to apply their professional skills to improvement of social, environmental, and economic conditions in Austin. Workshops are group consulting activities to address the current challenges faced by local non-profit and small business clients.
